If you are considering a move, you couldn't make a better choice than Austin, Texas. We have a friendly atmosphere, a diverse and welcoming population and a wide variety of places to live, from urban to surburban to rural settings. Austin is continually recognized as one of the best places to live, work, and raise a family. Forbes Magazine last year rated Austin as the best place to do business and advance your career. We are known as the "City of Ideas" and are proud to have highly educated, skilled and creative professionals call Austin home. We are the Capital City, home to the University of Texas and home to a wide veriety of cultural and recreational activities. Stunning lakes, parks and countryside beautify Austin's landscape. The many trails around the city provide a great place for walking, jogging and biking. And, of course, Austin is also known as the Live Music Capital of the World.
Looking for something to do on your visit to Austin..... how about a stroll down South Congress in and out of shops and restuarants, or walk down to the Congress Street Bridge at sunset to see the largest urban bat colony in the world, if it is warm out then take the short drive down south of Austin for a tubing ride down the Guadalupe or Comal River or if you don't want the drive just take a quick dip in Barton Springs that will no doubt cool you off, hungary for some good Texas BBQ?.... then head out to Driftwood for the famous "Salt Lick" BBQ, enjoying walking or running? then you will love Town Lake which is right in downtown Austin and if you enjoy museums you surely don't want to miss the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum.
Here are some pictures I took of my favorite places to go and hang out.
This is Barton Springs Pool which is located in Zilker Park. It is a natural, spring fed pool and it is open year around. The pool is over 900 feet long and has an average temparature of 68 degrees year around.
Another one of my favorite places in Austin is Town Lake. Actually, it is a tribute of the Colorado River but since it runs thru the middle of town, us locals just simply call it Town Lake. Circling around the river are trails that stretch 10 miles. Year around you will see people walking, pushing strollers, walking dogs, running, and biking along the paths. Then on the actual river you will see people in canoes, paddle boats, and riverboats.
South Congress (also know as SoCo) is an area of neat old buildings and funky & unsual shops. If you are around on the first Thursday of the month there is extra grooviness going on there (lots of outdoor vendors, music, shops open late). Here are a few pictures of the shops and since my favorite Italian food restuarant (Vespaio) is there, I took a picture of it too.
If you like enjoy bars, clubs and or live music then you will love visiting 6th Street and the Warehouse District both of which are downtown. There are some great restuarants there too.
And here is a picture I took at night of the downtown skyline from the trail at Town Lake.
